Backers To Continue Push For Child Care Union

Supporters of legislation that would allow child care workers to unionize say they’ll continue pushing for it when lawmakers return in January.

The bill easily won House passage just before lawmakers went home for the year on May 6th, but it failed to see Senate action. That means it will still be pending when lawmakers return.

As currently written, the measure would allow home child care providers to unionize to negotiate with the state over state subsidies, training opportunities and other facets of their work. Negotiations would not cover wages or health care.
