The Barre City Council says a town police officer abused his authority when he went into Spaulding High School to take pictures of a classroom he found offensive.

Last month Barre Town police officer John Mott persuaded a janitor to let him into a Spaulding classroom in the middle of the night when he took the photographs. Mott says the social studies teacher was promoting an anti-American position.

This week the city council wrote a letter to the town select board saying Mott’s action was inappropriate. Barre Mayor Harry Monti says Mott’s action was an abuse of his authority. Monti says Mott used his uniform to intimidate the janitors to get them to let him into the school.
