A 47-year-old Barre man pleaded not guilty today to a first degree murder charge that he strangled a woman after a downtown festival 27 years ago this summer.

Theodore Caron Jr. entered the plea in Vermont District Court in Barre to the charge that he killed 18-year-old Pamela Brown, whose body was found behind St. Monica’s School in Barre on July 17, 1982.

He was ordered held for lack of $500,000 dollars cash bail.
Police say a random DNA test linked Caron to Brown.

Brown’s family watched as Caron made his court appearance.
Brown’s younger brother Bryan Brown of Washington, who is now a police officer in the town of Barre, says he never doubted his sister’s killer would be brought to justice.
