Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield are helping the ice cream company they founded return to its social activist roots.

The two men are working with Ben-and-Jerry’s Homemade on its “American Pie'” campaign.

It’s designed to encourage consumers to contact the federal government and demand a change in spending priorities.

Cohen and Greenfield say $13 billion spent helping to maintain thousands of nuclear weapons should be diverted to programs helping children.

They say that would be enough for health insurance for every child who doesn’t have it or for repairs to school buildings.

The two men have had little to do with the ice cream company since it was sold to Dutch conglomerate Unilever six years ago.

But they say they’re happy to participate in the latest campaign.
