Ben & Jerry’s Homemade says there are job cuts pending at its headquarters. Company spokeswoman Chrystie Heimert says the reductions are likely to be announced late next week. She says the company has not determined how many jobs need to be eliminated. There are 199 workers at the South Burlington offices now.

The job cuts may be in response to changes in the ice cream marketplace. Ben & Jerry’s competitor, Haagen-Daz, is owned by the Nestle corporation. Nestle has bid to buy a majority stake in Ben & Jerry’s distributor, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream.
