Bennington Area Teachers’ Strike Enters Its Third Day

(Host) A teachers strike enters its third day this morning in a school district covering several Bennington County towns.

That means no school again for about 3,000 students from Bennington, North Bennington, Shaftsbury, Pownal and Mount Anthony Union High School.

Talks continued until late last night and another around of negotiations is expected today. Teachers say they’ll respond to the boards’ latest offer later today.

School board members tell the Bennington Banner that they’ve increased the amount of money they offered.

They also say they’ve moved closer to what the teachers are demanding on the amount of health care premiums the districts are willing to pay.

But teachers say the boards still don’t acknowledge that they’ve lost ground in the two years since they last won a contract settlement.
