There’s some more good news for a Bennington company that makes armor for combat vehicles that will be used by the U.S. military in Afghanistan.
Senator Patrick Leahy says the Pentagon has increased its order for troop vehicles built in part by Plasan North American.
The new contract for the Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Corporation to build 1,700 additional Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain-Vehicles is worth more than $1 billion.
Last month the Pentagon announced a contract for 2,200 of the vehicles.
Leahy says the first contract will provide 100 jobs in Bennington. The second contract should provide an additional 50 jobs.
The Pentagon could eventually buy up to 5,000 of the vehicles.
