Bennington Bypass leg estimated at $100 million

The estimated cost of building the northeastern leg of the Bennington Bypass has doubled from a year ago. The state Transportation Agency now says the cost of building the northern section would be roughly $100 million by the time construction is completed in 2010.

Agency officials say the increase in the price tag stems from a more detailed analysis of the route, including parts of the project that have been added since the original estimate. A spokesman for Governor Jim Douglas says the governor remains committed to the Bypass.
