The executive director of the Bennington Museum is stepping down to become head of an automobile museum under construction in New York State. The resignation of Richard Borges will be effective June 30.

Borges says the new position offered him an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. Museum trustees accepted Borges’s resignation with regret.

The Bennington Museum houses exhibitions recording the life and achievements of folk artist Grandma Moses.

Borges says his departure has nothing to do with the tough financial times the Bennington Museum is facing. The 130-year-old institution is starting the fourth year of a five-year plan to erase a $200,000 deficit.
