Bennington school district weighs hiring community relations staff

A school district in Bennington is deciding whether to add a full-time community relations specialist to its staff. An ad hoc committee has recommended that the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union add a community relations staff person to increase awareness about school activities and enhance public understanding of the issues facing the district.

Board members agree that the district needs to do a better job of communicating but at least one board member says adding a full-time position is too expensive. The salary would be $50,000 a year. The board is expected to vote on the proposal next week.
