Bennington Teachers Plan Informational Picket

(Host) Bennington area teachers are back at the bargaining table with school boards from the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union.

The teachers say they’ve been working under conditions imposed by the district last spring.

They rejected an offer by the district in September, because they say it didn’t address their objections to those conditions.

Stephannie Peters is president of the Southwestern Vermont Education Association. She says the union objects to attempts by the school boards to dictate how teachers spend their work days.

(Peters) "Another piece of it would be salaries, not just dollar amounts but they’ve taken a salary grid that took thirty years of negotiations and recreated an entirely new salary grid, as well as insurance contributions. So those were the three main points of concern."

(Host) Peters says they plan to stage an informational picket in downtown Bennington today if an agreement isn’t reached.
