The city of Berlin, New Hampshire will hold a public forum on the future of the former pulp mill site.

City Councilor Harold Bigelow says the Berlin can’t stop the property owner, North American Dismantling, from selling the old boiler to Laidlaw Energy. But he said it can use the permitting process to impact Laidlaw’s plan to convert the boiler to a biomass plant.

Councilor Paul Grenier said a 50-megawatt biomass plant would generate up to two million dollars in new property tax revenue for Berlin.

Mayor Robert Danderson broke a tie vote among the council in favor of the forum. A date hasn’t been set yet.
