Boaters warned of cold temperatures

Boating enthusiasts are warning that it may still be a bit too early to get out on Lake Champlain and other bodies of water.

A few people made their way onto the lake from Burlington in the bright sunshine over the weekend.

But the water temperature in the lake is only about 40 degrees or so.

Officials say tipping over in those kind of conditions can be particularly dangerous.

That’s because hypothermia can set in within 30 to 60 minutes in such cold conditions.

Some boating retailers recommend that people not go out on the water at this time of year without at least a wet suit or preferably a dry suit.
