Police and postal inspectors are investigating a pair of bombs found in mail boxes in West Burke and St. Johnsbury.

The explosives found Friday and Saturday contained cleaning chemicals in plastic bottles.

The bomb in St. Johnsbury exploded, but no one was hurt.

A bomb squad dismantled the other, but not until the West Burke Post Office was evacuated. The bomb had been taken to the Post Office after it was found in a mailbox.

Police are warning people in the Northeast Kingdom to look out for anything unusual around their mailboxes.

They’re also urging people not to handle material that they think is suspicious. Authorities say it’s better that they be called so they can inspect a package and disarm it, if necessary.
