Both sides in same-sex marriage issue now look to Lynch

All eyes now are on Gov. John Lynch, as the Legislature sent him a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in New Hampshire.

Immediately after the House approved the proposal on Wednesday, members of the pro-same-sex marriage New Hampshire Freedom to Marry delivered 12,000 petition signatures to Lynch’s office, urging him to sign the bill.

Group member Ryan Marvin of Manchester of Manchester said most New Hampshire citizens and legislators support same-sex marriage, so the governor has no excuse not to sign it.

However, Kevin Smith, director of the anti-same-sex marriage Cornerstone Policy Research, says Lynch has plenty of reason to veto the bill. Lynch has said marriage should be limited to a man and a woman. Smith says Lynch must tell state residents whether he was misleading them or did he mean what he said?
