Governor Jim Douglas has appointed a soon-to-be junior at Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon to the state Board of Education.

Robert Kelley of Brandon will fill one of two student seats on the board, which also has eight adult members. In the second year of a two-year term, the student becomes a full voting member.

Kelley currently is student representative to the Otter Valley Union High School Board. He’s a member of the student council and winner of a citizenship award from the Otter Valley Teachers’ Association.

Ranking student representative Alex Melville of Woodstock will move up to full voting board member, replacing outgoing board member Tess Savage of Starksboro.
