Brattleboro lifts Taser ban, institutes policy

The Brattleboro Select Board has lifted a temporary ban on the use of stun guns by police.

But the town has instituted a new policy designed to limit use of the weapons.

It calls for the stun guns not to be used, except in emergency situations where someone is acting violent or aggressive.

The new policy follows two incidents where police use of the Tasers has been questioned.

In one case, officers used the weapons on two protesters who were non-violent but refused to leave private property.

Tasers also used the weapon against a
psychiatric patient.
