A little more than a week after Brattleboro fired its police chief, the police department is honoring its officers.

At an awards banquet yesterday officers were recognized for their outstanding service.

Among those honored were Robert Perkins who was named officer of the year. Lieutenant Michael Perkins received the leadership award and Officer Chad Emery was honored for exceptional police duty for saving an unconscious driver from a burning vehicle.

Town Manager Barbara Sondag says despite the department’s difficulties in recent months, officers and the town have learned to work together.

Former Chief John Martin was fired partly for his handling of a July 24th incident in which two non-violent protesters were stunned with a Taser.
