Brattleboro town manager welcomes transit review

Brattleboro Town Manager Jerry Remillard says he welcomes a review by the Federal Transit Administration of spending on a planned parking garage and renovations to an adjacent train station.

The federal agency announced its review after some local residents and Select Board members complained that town officials weren’t able to provide a full accounting of spending on the project.

An agency spokesman says such reviews are not unusual. The FTA’s Paul Griffo says the agency feels an obligation to conduct such a review when questions are raised locally about a project.

The town had planned to hire an auditor to look at the project. But Remillard says the federal review should save the town the cost of that audit, and produce answers more quickly.
