The newly elected constable for the town of Brighton will get to try again after failing the entrance exam to the Vermont Police Academy.
Town officials say Darren “Bucky” Tardif failed on his first try.
Brighton Selectman Mike Bresette says it’s not uncommon for applicants to fail the first time.
On Town Meeting Day, the 27-year-old Tardif defeated longtime Brighton constable Teddy Miller. Miller held the post for 24 years.
Many people in town felt Miller was too strict in enforcing traffic laws in the village of Island Pond and the rest of the town.
Tardif must undergo training at the Police Academy to be able to enforce town ordinances.
