Burke votes against wind towers

Burke voters are taking a stand against wind towers. At a special meeting on Monday, voters adopted an ordinance restricting structures higher than 100 feet on land above 1,000 feet. Most property in Burke lies above 1,000 feet.

The vote was prompted by concern over a plan to develop wind towers in nearby East Haven. Burke residents are worried the towers might encroach on neighboring towns.

Burke officials say the town plan and zoning bylaws deal with scenic areas but contain no language on specific heights of certain structures. The ordinance has another two to three months of review before it goes into effect.
