Police in Burlington are warning people about a phone scam after a caller tried to defraud an elderly woman telling her she had won a raffle but would have to wire money to Virginia to get her prize.

Police say the caller identified himself as working for both the "Mega Millions Corporation" and for Wal-Mart.

He told the woman on April Fools’ Day that she had won a prize of $2,700 but that she would have to send a Western Union money order for $327 to cover the cost of shipping the prize. The suspect told her he would meet her afterward to give her the prizes.

The woman reported the call to police.
