Campaign finance ruling appealed

Lawyers for the Vermont Republican Party want the full U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider a decision on campaign finance. They say the ruling by just three judges upholding strict campaign spending and contribution limits is unconstitutional.

The decision was appealed by a coalition of groups and individuals, including the Republicans, the Vermont Right to Life anti-abortion group, and several former lawmakers. The coalition wants a new hearing before all 12 judges on the circuit court of appeals. That will have the effect of ensuring that the spending limits don’t go into effect for the current election.
