Vermont’s commissioner of education went to Marlboro Monday and asked the school board to comply with federal No Child Left Behind act. Marlboro is the only district in the state that has refused to comply with the law, saying the assessment tests lead to a one-size fits all curriculum.
Commissioner Richard Cate says the law is more flexible than people realize. He says that, while the tests are necessary to administer, he’s informed the federal Department of Education that Vermont probably won’t use the resulting data in the same way that more populous school districts might.
