Residents of Cavendish, home of exiled former Soviet dissident author Alexander Solzhenitsyn, have decided to create an exhibit honoring him.
Voters at Monday night’s Town Meeting overwhelmingly decided the tiny town should take over a historic stone church to house the Nobel laureate’s exhibit.
Cavendish Historical Society coordinator Margo Caulfield says preservationists will examine the church in the spring and the exhibit should be ready by next year.
Solzhenitsyn lived in Cavendish from 1977 to 1994. He died in Russia in 2008. His house in Cavendish is still lived in by his son and his family.
The Cavendish Historical Society says visitors regularly ask about him. Two busloads of Russian visitors last summer prompted the historical society to suggest the exhibit.
