A key link across Lake Champlain is in worse shape than was thought, but will reopen to two-lane traffic next month.

The Press Republican reports that was the word shared at a meeting Wednesday between Vermont and New York transportation officials about the Champlain Bridge.

The bridge has been reduced to one-lane traffic since July, while temporary repairs were made that will enable it being reopened in late October.

Meanwhile, plans are being drawn up for more extensive repairs on the span between Crown Point, N.Y. and Addison, Vt., to take place in 2013.
