In Chester, a group of residents is fighting a proposal to build a new retail chain store.

The Zaremba Group, which owns property in Chester, has proposed building a 9,100 square-foot Dollar General store on the town’s Main Street.

For months, the developer has been battling with the group, which calls itself Smart Growth Chester.

The Chester Telegraph reports a public hearing was scheduled for this week, but Chester’s Development Review Board postponed it after requesting more information from the developer, including grading and drainage plans for the site.

Smart Growth Chester says that the Dollar General store won’t fit in well with the New England character of the town and that it could harm other area businesses.
