The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf homed is getting closer to its goal of 2,650 donated turkeys that will be distributed to needy families for Thanksgiving.

On Saturday area residents brought in more than 450 birds.

Now the food shelf is 106 turkeys short of reaching its goal of being able to supply the 2,650 people who signed up for a Thanksgiving bird.

Last Wednesday, the food shelf had to turn away people coming to pick up their turkeys because there weren’t enough.

The food shelf will be accepting turkeys again today.

People who are eligible to receive them, can pick their turkeys up between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on today, tomorrow and Wednesday.
