Senator Patrick Leahy was on hand to welcome the nation’s tree to its spot of honor in front of the U.S. Capitol building.

The 55-foot balsam fir tree harvested from the Green Mountain National Forest in southern Vermont two weeks ago was unloaded yesterday near where it will be decorated as the capitol Christmas tree.

The Capitol Christmas Tree is also known as “The People’s Tree.” It will be decorated with ornaments from all 50 states.

The tree was harvested two weeks ago in Somerset, Vermont.

An official lighting ceremony will take place December 5th.

The Mount Anthony Union High School chorus from Bennington will perform at the event.
