The New Hampshire Democratic Party has asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate the gathering of petition signatures for independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader by a group of Republicans.

The complaint was filed today against “Nader for President 2004,” “Choices for America,” a nonprofit group described as promoting ballot access for candidates of all parties, and “Norway Hill Associates,” a Hancock consulting firm.

The complaint says Norway Hill has been collecting the signatures to get Nader on the November ballot in New Hampshire. It says the firm, owned by Republican activist David Carney, has said he hopes to get paid by Missouri-based Choices for America, which requested the work.

Aaron Rizzio, Nader’s New Hampshire coordinator, said the campaign had collected more than the 3,000 signatures needed to get Nader on the ballot. The signatures are due to town clerks for verification today.

Rizzio had said the campaign would not reject the Republican-gathered petitions.
