A former copper mine in Corinth has been added to the federal priority list known as the Superfund list. The 216-acre site was home to Pike Hill Copper Mine. More than $9 million pounds of copper was mined there from 1847 until 1919.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says 20,000 tons of copper scraps are scattered over the surface of the mine polluting local brooks and rivers. The Superfund listing makes federal funding available for the cleanup at the mine.
