(Host) A Republican state senator from Franklin County says he’s retiring. Senator George Costes has served three terms in the Senate. At age 79, Costes says he’s ready to spend more time with his wife. He also wants to travel.

A Republican House member from the town of Georgia, Representative Carl Rosenquist, says he’ll run for Costes’ seat. The other Franklin County Senate seat is held by Democrat Sara Branon Kittell, who plans to seek another term.

Costes is the third senator to announce plans to retire. Senator Jean Ankeney of Chittenden County is stepping down. President Pro Tempore Peter Shumlin is leaving the Senate to run for lieutenant governor.
