The New Hampshire Executive Council has unanimously approved Lorraine Merrill to serve as the state’s next Agriculture Commissioner.

Governor John Lynch nominated Merrill to the position last month. She replaces Steve Taylor, who recently retired after being commissioner for 25 years.

Merrill is from Stratham and she’s been a dairy farmer for more than 30 years. She also is a freelance writer and has been involved with the University of New Hampshire in agricultural and environmental research and teaching programs.

The council approved her nomination yesterday.
