A new report says a big push for renewable energy and efficiency efforts could give a powerful boost to Vermont’s economy, including up to 6-thousand new jobs.

The Vermont Council on Rural Development’s Rural Energy Council issued 23 recommendations and a new economic model designed to help state officials analyze energy policy.

Several had to do with development of more biomass, wind, solar and other renewable sources.

The council avoided questions about what the state should do regarding the future of its two biggest sources of power: the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant and the provincial utility Hydro-Quebec.
