Police say crimes in northwestern Vermont are becoming more violent.
Police told community officials in Essex and Essex Junction that the crimes are being driven by the use of prescription drugs such as OxyContin.
Northwestern Vermont has had 25 armed robberies since November.
The number of burglaries in that area has increased by 23 percent.
