Crown Point bridge reopens after accident

(Host) The Crown Point bridge over Lake Champlain has reopened to traffic this afternoon. New York and Vermont state police closed the bridge at Chimney Point after a logging truck struck an overhead beam on the bridge. The steel-truss bridge was closed while inspectors assessed the structure. Traffic was rerouted to Route 4 and to ferries until late this afternoon.

The accident occurred at nine o-clock this morning on the New York side of the bridge. The cab of the logging truck cleared the bridge entrance, but logs bent an overhead beam and then spilled onto the roadway. Police in both states issued a citation to the Vermont driver because the truck’s load was too tall and too heavy for the bridge. No one was hurt.
