Dartmouth College is launching a year-long celebration of the arts on campus, starting with Friday’s dedication of a new visual arts center.

The Black Family Visual Arts Center is a 105-thousand square foot facility housing the college’s studio art, film, and media studies departments, as well as a new program in Digital Humanities.

It’s named for Leon Black, a 1973 graduate, who along with his wife, contributed $48 million dollars toward its construction.

The money also helped pay for a large wall sculpture called Dartmouth Panels by artist Ellsworth Kelly.
