Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean may be among the possible picks for President Barack Obama’s new health and human services nominee now that Tom Daschle has withdraw his nomination.

Other prospects are Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and Ohio Gov. Ted Stricklan.

Dean, the physician-turned-politician who ran for president in 2004 and recently left as head of the Democratic National Committee, was considered for the post before it went to Daschle.

The former senator withdrew yesterday over tax problems.
