Dean Foods Company has tentatively agreed to pay Vermont dairy farmers $30 million to settle a class-action lawsuit.

Details of the settlement have not been released.

But the company says in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it has asked the U-S District Court in Burlington to approve the agreement.

Dean Foods says that, in addition to the payment, it has agreed to other terms and conditions about its purchase of raw milk for its processing plants in the Northeast.

Dean Foods buys the vast majority of the milk in the region.

The Obama administration has also been investigating alleged anti-trust violations in the dairy industry. The federal government sued Dean earlier this year over a proposed merger in the Midwest.
