Grace Paley, the state poet, says she’s not endorsing Vermont’s former governor in his run for the presidency. Paley is an 80-year-old writer and activist who lives in Thetford. She’s part of a group called Feminists for Kucinich that’s backing Democratic candidate Dennis Kucinich, an Ohio congressman.

Paley says she likes what former Governor Howard Dean stands for – but she likes Kucinich better because he supports setting up a cabinet-level Department of Peace and abolishing the death penalty.

And in Cincinnati Friday, a labor union representing more than 700,000 workers endorsed Missouri Congressman Dick Gephardt in his bid for the Democratic nomination for president. Both Dean and Gephardt got repeated standing ovations.
