Smallpox vaccinations
President Bush Friday announced plans to administer smallpox vaccines to some military personnel and health care workers. It’s expected up to 2,000 Vermonters could receive the vaccinations. (VPR)

Douglas may cut state jobs
Governor-elect Jim Douglas says he’s taking a serious look at reducing the size of the state’s workforce as a way to balance next year’s budget. (VPR)

HHS secretary
Vermont Secretary of Human Services Jane Kitchel will retire at the end of the month, after 35 years with state government. When she started as a social worker in 1967, towns still had local overseers of the poor. The agency now has a billion dollar budget. (AP)

Sugarbush expansion
The new owners of the Sugarbush ski resort hope to build a new hotel and conference center near the base of Lincoln peak. Sugarbush President Bob Ackland told the Warren select board plans call for a conference center with about 150 condominium units and hotel rooms. (AP)
