Vermont’s unemployment rate has slightly to 4.2% in December. That is slightly higher than November’s unemployment, but it’s still lower than it was a year ago.

Unemployment in Vermont’s 13 labor markets was lowest in Hartford and highest in Newport. State officials say job gains in retail trade are smaller than usual for the holiday season, but lots of snow helped boost employment at resorts and lodging establishments.

The national unemployment rate is 6%.
