A judge has barred a defense attorney from interviewing a member of the jury that convicted Brian Rooney of murdering a University of Vermont student.

Rooney of Richmond was found guilty of aggravated murder more than a week ago in the 2006 rape and murder of Michelle Gardner-Quinn of Arlington, Va.

Defense attorney David Sleigh told prosecutors that he planned to question juror Randy Chadurjian of Rutland in a deposition June 11.

Chadurjian, who spoke to a local television station after the verdict, was one of three jurors interviewed by the media.

Prosecutors asked the judge to stop the interview, saying questioning jurors about deliberations is not allowed under Vermont law.

In an order issued Friday, Judge Michael Kupersmith blocked all depositions, pending a hearing at the end of next week.
