Democrats May Have Picked Up Senate Seat

Democrats may have picked up a state Senate seat in the Northeast Kingdom.

With all but two towns reporting in the Essex-Orleans district, returns show former Representative John Rodgers of Glover taking a seat vacated by Republican Senator Vince Illuzzi.

It also appears that the Democrats may have retained a seat in Franklin County. Republican Norman McAllister, who currently serves in the House, captured one seat.

One Franklin County town still needs to report results, but former Senator Don Collins, a Democrat, holds the lead for that post.

Progressives will hold two seats. Senator Anthony Pollina in Washington County was re-elected. And former House member David Zuckerman captured a seat in Chittenden County.

NOTE: This story has been update to correct that John Rodgers is a former state representative, not an incumbent.
