It may be Friday the 13th, but it’s a lucky day for more than 1,200 people who won permits for this fall’s moose-hunting seasons.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife used a computerized system to pick the winners from among more than 13,000 people who applied.

The moose hunt will take place during two periods in late October and early November. State officials expect more than 700 moose will be killed during this year’s hunt.

For those who didn’t win, the state will auction off five additional permits, but bidding ends August first.

Those wanting to see if they’re on the list of permit winners can go to the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Web site.
