The town of Dorset is backing a plan by the U.S. Forest Service to buy 52 acres of undeveloped land in the community. The Dorset Select Board unanimously supported the plan by the Forest Service to buy the land now owned by the Thornton Family Trust.

The land will first be purchased by the Conservation Fund and then sold to the Forest Service. The parcel is tucked between land owned by the Forest Service and the state of Vermont. Forest Service officials say they’re unsure of plans for the parcel, but it won’t be developed.
