Governor Jim Douglas says he’s decided to accept a stimulus program for unemployed Vermonters.

By agreeing to a number of provisions in the stimulus law, the state will be able to get almost $14 million in extra money for people who have lost their jobs.

Douglas considered turning down the money because the requirements could cost the state more in the future.

Under the program that Douglas recommends that the Legislature to adopt, unemployed workers will be able to collect benefits while they go through training for a new job.

Legislators will have to decide when to make the new benefits effective.
