Police say the driver of a car involved in a crash in Hancock that killed a 13-year-old Barre girl didn’t have a driver’s license.

Police say 18-year-old Sammy Jo Wood of Granville had a learner’s permit when the car she was driving crossed the center line on Monday and hit another vehicle.

Passenger Shawna Linn Brown was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. She was not wearing a seat belt.

A four-year-old child in the car was not injured.

Police say they’re still investigating to determine whether Wood should face charges.

Police say Wood was distracted when she crossed the center line on Vermont Route 100 and hit another vehicle head-on.

The other driver was not severely injured.
