The driver of a Burlington-to-Montpelier commuter bus that crashed in May now faces a charge of negligent operation in connection with the incident.

Vermont State Police say 74-year-old Deane Harrington of Roxbury, the driver of the bus, has been cited and is scheduled to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre on Oct. 20.

Police say Harrington failed to slow the Green Mountain Transit Authority bus enough when traffic was stopped ahead due to road construction and hit several other vehicles.

The spectacular May 14 accident left two cars on their roofs and other vehicles damaged, but none of the several people involved suffered serious injuries.
