Dubie weighs run for governor

Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie is expected to decide in a couple of weeks whether to run for governor in 2010 following incumbent Republic Gov. Jim Douglas’ announcement that he will not seek re-election.

Dubie, a Republican, told the Burlingon Free Press he will be meeting with people and talking with them by phone in the coming days to gauge their support and weigh a candidacy against the Democratic contender. Three Democrats have already said they’re running.

Dubie also says he needs to explore his fundraising capacity, saying he’s been successful in the past but not raised near enough for a gubernatorial run. He also won’t enter the race without his family’s backing.

Douglas says Dubie is eminently qualified for the job.
